4. Long Now

How can our projects foster the ‘long now’ approach of good ancestors?

How can we act responsibly and ethically to leave a positive legacy for those who come after us? How can we incorporate long-term thinking and approaches that will enable a reorientation to our work that assists the good seeds of the past and present to flourish for the benefit of future generations.

To achieve this, let us consider how we can:

1.1   … respect and value existing communities and buildings?

Creatively and respectfully incorporate the embodied culture and carbon of existing places, buildings and materials.

1.2   … enable future communities to endure and adapt to changing climates and needs?

To withstand the challenges posed by climate change and evolving societal requirements, address climate change, promote community engagement, and foster a resilient and adaptable built environment that enhances the overall well-being of residents.

1.3   … regenerate resources as we use them?

Engage in circular design principles to contribute to the replenishment of biodiversity, materials, food, water, and energy as they are carefully used through the life of the project.
