After successfully developing this novel means of modular prefabrication, David and Caroline Pidcock have come to a point where they require assistance to move from the early stages of commercialisation into full production. During the past 10 years, David and Caroline have invested substantial amounts of their own time, money and energy into this compelling and innovative idea, the strength of which is underlined by the attainment of a $740,000 grant from Commercialisation Australia, after a rigorous assessment process.

With substantial IP and the first prototype in hand, David and Caroline are now looking for partners to bring additional capital and experience to bear in the realisation of this exciting venture.

 The investment to date has enabled production and testing of version 1 of the system. This has resulted in a robust prototype building and a great deal of information about how to improve the system even further.  Development of version 2 will capitalise on the team’s great work to date to produce an even more appealing and flexible product for the market. As the costs for the early stages of commercialisation have been more significant than anticipated, David and Caroline are now looking for partners to help them take this important next step


In November 2013, Caroline and David Pidcock's company Origination was successful in its application to Commercialisation Australia for a substantial grant to commericalise its modular building system &U. In a highly competitive situation, Origination was recognised by a skilled Board as being worthy of investment.

Origination's modular building system (&U) uses pre-finished, light-weight components connecting through patented coupling systems to create high quality buildings, which are sustainable, attractive and easy to assemble.

Unlike anything else on the market, the system allows buildings to be easily assembled on site by a few, rather than constructed by many. It allows an unlimited range of designs to be created, rather than being limited to a number of standard design choices.

Working to a tartan grid system, specific posts, beams and joists create the framework on either a concrete slab or elevated lightweight floor.

The pultruded, prefinished, composite panels, complete with insulation, spaces for services and patented proprietary coupling systems, are fitted into the framework.

Flat packed into standard containers and lifted without mechanical assistance, the panels can be easily removed or interchanged with windows or doors at any time with no disruption to the structure or adjoining panels. Rooms can be added or removed and buildings can be disassembled and re-used.

The composite insulated roof system spans from beam to beam with no additional support required. Upper beams and skirtings have their facings attached when electrical and plumbing work is completed at the end of the project.

We anticipate the people who will be attracted to such attributes and see this as an ideal solution include those who are wanting to:

-       deliver a quality outcome, that is beautiful and sustainable, while managing costs and ongoing maintenance

-       build on sites where access is difficult for either getting parts in and/or cranes to assist (both remote and inner city)

-       build in locations where it is difficult to get labour of any sort, let alone of quality

-       be involved in the building of their own homes

-       be able to adapt the house in layout or size in the future

The motivation for Origination to develop the House of Parts building system came from the directors' passion to revolutionize how buildings are made so that improvements in quality, process, costs and timing could be realized. With careers in building and architecture, the directors are uniquely placed to collaboratively work to realize this future.

Knowing how little the Australian building industry has changed in the last 100 years, we believe there is great opportunity to change the game by harnessing the manufacturing and technological advances that have accompanied the advent of the 21st century into a new approach to the built environment.
