John McInerney appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.

We are delighted to note that Australia Day 2017 saw John McInerney appointed a Member of the Order of Australia “for significant service to town planning, and to architecture, to professional organisations, to local government, and to the community”. This is in recognition of the outstanding contributions he has made in numerous areas. This includes:

  • Patron of the Walter Burley Griffin Society
  • Chair of the Millers Point Resident Action Group (RAG), and member of the Working Party and Millers Point Fund Inc
  • Councillor at the City of Sydney 2004 - 2012, including being Deputy Lord Mayor 2004 - 2005
  • President of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) 2002 to 2004 and life fellow since 2006
  • Recipient of the PIA’s Sydney Luker Memorial Medal, 2008
  • Recipient of the Exemplar Award, Year of the Built Environment, 2004
  • Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects since 2003
  • Chairman of the National Capital Planning and Land Council (2003-2006)
