As 2014 comes to a screamingly fast close, it is nice to reflect on the year and what has happened, as well as look forward to 2015. Thank you everyone who has been part of this continuing journey - your contribution to making this enjoyable and rewarding is what makes us love to turn up each day, ready for the next part of the adventure!

We will be taking a restorative break from 2pm Friday 19 December 2014 until Monday 12 January 2015.

It has been a big year for PIDCOCK, with many projects started in design; being considered by council; in documentation; being completed; and about to start on site next year. For a sample of those that have been completed or commencing construction, please see our Recent Projects page.

Thanks so much to our clients who have trusted and worked with us to achieve such lovely sustainable homes. We are looking forward to continuing with many of you next year, as well as working with some new clients on a number of projects that will start first thing in 2015.

The &U prefabricated modular system by ORIGINATION (a joint venture by Caroline and David Pidcock) heralds a new way of building. It utilises modern composite materials and manufacturing techniques to replace traditional building materials and building methods. &U offers a solution to the waste, inefficiencies and problems associated with the building process. At the end of 2013, our &U system was recognized by Commercialisation Australia for its innovation and potential, and we were awarded a substantial grant to help make it happen.

After a big year of progress with the &U project, including a name change from "House of Parts" and the development of new designs by PIDCOCK, we are ready for a really exciting 2015. This week we are launching our website - see www.andu.com.au. Parts will be arriving in Sydney in Feb/Mar 2015 ready to be machined and fitted in preparation for a number of prototype buildings. We are delighted to have three prototype projects in the process of being confirmed - a very positive way to end the year!

It is great to see that prefab is gaining momentum and being recognized in Australia as the truly sustainable way to build that it is. Being clearly focused on this area through our involvement in the &U system, we have enjoyed becoming part of the growing group of innovative and entrepreneurial people in Australia and New Zealand who are making this happen.

A research tour earlier this year took David and Caroline to the World of Modular conference in San Antonio, Texas USA and the PrefabNZ conference in Auckland New Zealand. The PrefabNZ conference was very aligned with the work we are involved with, and included people from the boating industry (read America's Cup boat builders) who are using and are very enthusiastic about composite materials - the same ones that &U are made from.

The inaugural PrefabAus conference in Melbourne in August started with a tour of various prefab factories and projects around Melbourne, before hearing a range of really exciting ideas from both here and abroard. It is a most exciting area to be involved with, and we are looking forward to assisting clients to realize the advantages of this way of building in the future.
